In the most recent years, the mobile phone has been a driving force for technology. This breakthrough in invention introduced an entirely new way of communicating and being entertained. In terms of entertainment, mobile phones have taken over from televisions and video games. Even the young generation gets their entertainment through mobile phones. Often people take their phones with them while traveling in buses, trains, and other places where it is not allowed to carry a camera or gun; but they will use their phones to send text messages, post status updates on Facebook or Myspace or take photos. Even though this seems like harmless fun, the phone has become an addiction like bad coffee.
But there are very few short stories which can be found about the fascination of using cell phones for entertainment; hence during an exam at my college, I found that this topic could be turned into a short story. However, I discovered that most writers were focusing their works on the use of cell phone for social networking and texting. The stories that I found were short but had an extraordinary twist in the end. The stories were all well written, but what I wanted to write was a story which would be considered well crafted. So one day, when I was lounging around at home with nothing to do, it struck me that this is the right time to start writing my story.
When I started thinking about how to write such a story, it got more and more complicated as things went on. A few months ago during my college days, we went for an excursion to Cherai Beach where we had tons of fun playing football and other activities which were usually done by the young crowd. There was a man there who was selling some snacks, so I did not pay much attention to him but the moment, he started talking with me in Malayalam. This man's name was Sunny Chettan and he asked me very straightforwardly what I wanted. I had no idea that he knew Malayalam, so after listening him out for a while, I answered him in English which made them smile at each other. I thought it would be nice to write a story featuring Sunny Chettan as the main character and hence during my free time I wrote the first few scenes which were about how this man changed his life through mobile phone by receiving anonymous messages leading up to his death. I had no problem getting into the character's mind because I could easily connect with its character.
I don't think it is only me who feels happy when they receive an SMS with a positive message. It is like you are getting the attention of someone who cares about you, someone who actually understands your problems and can help you resolve them. Some people might think that anonymous communications are kind of cruel because people do not know who they are talking to. Is it safe to stay anonymous? Yes, it is perfectly safe to remain anonymous, but there are few things that are worth mentioning about this matter.
